Out with the old and in with the new! The Vegas strip is constantly changing out shows, stores, clubs, entire casinos, and restaurants — and 2016 is no exception. If you haven’t been to Vegas in a little while (or you’ve never been at all), you can look forward to exploring this year’s new additions to the scene.
Budweiser Beer Park
An American in Paris? Budweiser is taking up residence in the Paris Casino where Chateau used to live. The rooftop patio will now be full of picnic tables and flat screens where crowds can catch the game while drinking from a selection of over 100 types of beer, craft beer cocktails, wine on tap and regular cocktails. Food includes all-American fare served from “roaming food carts” as well as beer-infused BBQ from their full menu, which includes pulled pork, sausages and chicken. End your meal with funnel cake or some Cracker Jacks and you’ve got yourself a home run.
Speaking of Paris Casino, one of my all time favorite places to get drinks used to be there: Sugar Factory. To my dismay, it closed in 2015 to make way for HEXX restaurant + bar. I loved everything about it from their GIANT drinks to the world’s cutest candy in their gift shop. I was still able to get my Factory fix in NYC and Miami, but I’m excited that they’ll be opening another location in Vegas at the Fashion Show Mall. (Yes, I know there is one in Planet Hollywood, but it’s small and totally not the same). The newest location opening up is said to be the most lavish location to date. With a huge canopy of twinkle light and luxurious lounge, it looks to be Sugar Factory’s premier location. It’s going to be lit.
If you haven’t been to this famous brunch spot in Los Angeles, you’ve probably seen their posts on Insta #eggslut. From humble beginnings in a food truck in LA to a food stand with epically long lines, Eggslut is now expanding its horizons beyond the Golden State to the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. While the LA location that slings out $9 Sluts (“coddled egg on top of a smooth potato purée, poached in a glass jar and served with a demi baguette”) is only open until 4pm in Cali, it plans to become a night owl in Vegas to serve late night egg sandwiches to people stumbling out of Marquee and looking for a bite. This is way more exciting than the McDonald’s all day breakfast announcement.
East meets West as the Boston native franchise Wahlburger comes to the Strip… maybe? There have been some delays in construction, but as of now a Wahlburger is still set to open at the Bally’s Grand Bazaar Shops sometime in 2016. If you aren’t from the East coast or you’ve managed to miss the A&E reality show about the burger joint, it’s the unique creation of Paul Wahlberg (Mark Wahlberg’s older brother). The restaurant will offer fast, affordable fare along with specialty cocktails.
El Burro Borracho
Boisterous TV chef and personality Guy Fieri opened his second restaurant in Vegas in March 2016. El Burro Borracho — “The Drunken Ass” — already has one location at the Harrah’s in Laughlin, and the newest location opened March 4th inside of the Rio. You can expect an authentic Mexican menu with unique Fieri flair. Located near the Voodoo beach club, El Burro Borracho aims to have a fun atmosphere serving up dishes like street tacos, burritos, signature tortas and house-made salsas.
Personally, I’m pretty pumped for the late night breakfast sandwiches from Eggslut and the new bomb ass Sugar Factory. Also, despite living in Boston for 5 years, never have I ever had a Wahlburger, so I’m excited to try it and see if it’s good enough to turn the Vegas Trifecta of Burgers into a Quad.
