Diamonds are a girls best friend? Maybe, although a Netflix account and Chipotle rank pretty high for me. But if you’re going to make the most of gaming in Vegas, you’ll need to rely on Sin City’s trifecta of besties. You should grow to know and love as much as the hot messes you call friends who came with you on the trip.
On the casino floor, Blackjack, Roulette and Craps will give you the best shot at blowing it out with your squad without going home broke. They’re almost as easy as your friend Stacy, and probably even more fun (just kidding Stacy’s cool #saynotoslutshaming).
Anyone can sit down and push a button to play slots, but gambling on table games can be especially intimidating. With slots you’re more or less left alone to win or lose, but table games bring the added stress of people watching you play and seeing you potentially make costly mistakes. Shame sucks.
You can always get help from the dealer, and many casinos offer free lessons where you can take your time learning the basics of a game without risking money… or your dignity. However, your three besties, Blackjack, Roulette and Craps, are simple enough to pick up on the fly and play with confidence as long as you know a few basics.
Roulette is by far the easiest to learn and play. The basic idea of the game is to pick a number that the ball spinning on the wheel will land on. That can be one of the 38 spaces, or you can choose other bets such as even or odd, black or red, and a specific range of numbers.
The concept is really simple, though — you pick something on the board and hope the ball lands on it. If you want to learn the ins and outs of the game, I’ll tell you pretty much everything you need to know as a beginning roulette player.
You can play roulette without any skill, and if you go with a friend you can hedge bets, with one of you going odd and the other going even (or red/black). Your wins and losses will cancel each other out, aside from the rare times the ball lands on green. Keep track of your wins and losses to make your own game out of it — the winner between the two of you buys the next drink. You won’t win, but you won’t get destroyed, either.
Since everyone is crowded around the table, you’ll be interacting with new people — and who knows? You may even become someone’s good luck charm.
Blackjack draws a lot of knowledgeable casino players, and that’s because it pays some of the best odds in the casino — and with enough skill, it *can* be beaten. However, the basics of the game are easy and fast to learn, and by using a very simple, basic strategy you can play nearly-perfect blackjack… and rack up some comps, sip free cocktails and have a blast doing it.
Aside from the rules and the concept being #basic, blackjack is fun to play because players are usually friendly and willing to help new players. Since everyone is playing against the dealer rather than against each other, people root for you and even throw shade at the dealer. It’s fun.
But you won’t need a lot of help from others if you’re playing proper basic strategy — and Glam and Gamble has a simple blackjack guide for that.
While craps is a little more advanced, it’s a game that can give you a great social experience. Remember that time in Sex and the City when the girls went to a casino and Carrie became that asshole’s lucky charm and gave her $1,000? Ok, that probably won’t happen to you, but people really get into playing craps and its social interaction. The scenes from the movies where everyone get mad into it and freaks out for each other is totally legit. Craps is probably the most lit game on the casino floor.
You can play without unloading shit tons of money, but if the only thing you know the game is that scene from Sex in the City you’re probs going to want to brush up on the basics of Craps.
Ok, so now that you know why these games are v awesome, you may want a more detailed description of actual gameplay and rules. Don’t get your 5 for $27 panties in a bunch, betch, we have you covered — check out our guides to Roulette, Craps, and Blackjack.
