Presale for Life is Beautiful 2016 just went live, which has me catching all kinds of nostalgic feelings from last year. If you’ve never heard of Life is Beautiful, it’s a 3-day festival that takes place in downtown Las Vegas. While music is the main draw, Life is Beautiful has a learning series, art installations and a range of culinary experiences. The lineup is LIT The Shins, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers, and City and Colour are just a few I’m majorly stoked for. Here are a few of my favorite moments from last year:
My 13-year-old self literally died and came back to life when I saw Death Cab for Cutie. It was an epic moment that I will treasure forever. The nice thing about festivals is that if you so choose you can get to a stage early to make sure to have your ultimate fan girl moment with your favorite band. I was against the rail for Death Cab, and because of that, it felt like Ben Gibbard was singing to me. JUST ME. #swoon
A lesser-known favorite of mine is Ryn Weaver. She’s a great singer/songwriter, BUT she’s an even better performer. If I could be half as badass as her, I’d be a happy camper. LIB does a great job of mixing in tons of epic headliners with up and coming artists that you don’t want to miss.
As I mentioned there is a learning series at LIB, which turned out to be great… and even if you weren’t totally interested in someone talking about veganism, you were in an air-conditioned room with a seat (that’s a plus). But almost all of the speakers were cool… including the particularly exciting talk by BILL BILL BILL BILL BILL NYE THE SCIENCE GUY. To be totally honest, his talk was a bit odd. He awkwardly wove together the gender pay gap with global warming — um what? — but it was cool to see him IRL regardless.
Jack Daniels pop-up distillery tours? Yes, please. Yes, that does make Life Beautiful.
Life Is Beautiful was one of the best festivals I’ve been to due to the kick-ass lineup and all the variety with other shit going on. If no one you liked was playing, then there were 10 other things you could check out in the festival OR you could go chill in the AC in a casino on Fremont Street.
The dates for LIB this year are 9.23-9.25. Tickets will run you $285 for GA or $655 for VIP (Which I highly recommend! It includes designated separate lounges with bars, charging stations and air-conditioned bathrooms! Also, VIP viewing areas, along with other perks.) If you decide to go this year here are some tips on how to survive a music festival.
